Apache Nitrogen Products, Inc. is a world-class producer of nitrogen products used in the mining and fertilizer industries. Founded in 1920 as Apache Powder Company to produce black-powder-based explosives, by the late 1920s the company evolved into producing nitroglycerin dynamite. The company began producing ammonium nitrate products in the 1940’s as mining demands changed. The original nitroglycerin products were phased out by 1983.
ANPI’s fertilizer products are now used by farmers throughout the southwest.
ANPI is located on Apache Powder Road, in an unincorporated area approximately 1 mile southwest St. David, and 7 miles southeast of Benson, AZ. The plant's location, and the Southern Pacific Railroad stop there, were referred to as Curtiss, Arizona in the 1920s.
